Hunting Island State Park: Parking South Beach

South Beach is a public ocean beach within Hunting Island State Park on the South Carolina coast, about 3 miles from Harbor Island. The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism manages the park. The South Beach parking area serves this stretch of shoreline, and the beach has restrooms and lifeguards. A fee is charged. For a beach day, summer is the warmest time to go. Typical July highs reach about 89°F with lows near 75°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station at Edisto Beach State Park. Late spring and early fall are milder. May averages highs around 80°F, and October averages around 77°F. Several trails are close by. Magnolia Forest Trail starts about 0.7 mile away, and Marsh Boardwalk Crossover Trail is about 1.2 miles off. Lagoon Trail and Maritime Forest Trail are each roughly 1.6 miles from the beach.
