Summit

Picacho Mountain

New Mexico

About

Picacho Mountain is a summit on Bureau of Land Management land in the Las Cruces District of southern New Mexico, about 1.2 miles from the community of Picacho Hills. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs near 78°F with lows in the mid-40s, and October highs around 80°F. Summer highs there reach the mid-90s. That station sits roughly 1,000 feet below the mountain, so temperatures up high run cooler. The Unnamed BLM Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Las Cruces Area Climbing is about 0.4 mile off. A little farther out are the Apache Canyon Trail (formerly Tabasco Twister), about 1.5 miles away, and Branson Canyon, about 2.7 miles away.
