South Fork Reservoir

South Fork Reservoir is a boat launch on Bureau of Land Management land in Nevada's Elko District, about 2.3 miles from the town of Hunter. It provides access to the water from public land managed by the BLM. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show a strong seasonal swing. July is the warmest month, with highs around 92°F and lows near 52°F, and August is close behind at about 90°F. Those two months are also the driest, with only about three wet days each. June and September are milder, with highs around 81°F and 80°F. Spring warms gradually, from about 60°F in April to 70°F in May, though April nights still drop to around 31°F. Winter is cold. December and January highs reach only about 38°F, lows fall to the mid-teens, and wet days climb to around nine a month. For warm, settled weather on the water, late spring through early fall is the most comfortable stretch. Several trails lie within about 10 miles of the reservoir. Hasting's Trail is about 4.6 miles away and Hastings Trail about 5.8 miles. Tomera Ranch Trail and Humboldt trail are both just under 10 miles off.
