Veterans Memorial Park

Veterans Memorial Park is a public lake beach in Michigan, set about 0.2 miles from the town of Elk Rapids. It's a simple stop for a day at the water close to town. Summer is the natural season for a beach visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Old Mission, about 5 miles away, show July highs around 80°F with lows near 58°F, and August nearly the same at 79°F and 58°F. June runs a little cooler, with highs near 75°F and lows around 52°F. September still reaches about 71°F by day but drops to around 51°F at night. By October highs fall to about 58°F. Winter is cold, with January and February highs near 30°F and lows around 16°F. For more time on the water, Torch Lake lies about 8 miles away and offers lake fishing. The Chain of Lakes Water Trail, roughly 8.5 miles out, and the Lake Michigan Water Trail Northwest, about 10 miles away, both suit canoeing.
