Schoodic Mountain
About
Schoodic Mountain is a summit in Maine, about 13 miles from the town of Winter Harbor. Hikers reach it on foot, and the network of trails around its base makes it easy to combine with other short outings in the same area. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Acadia National Park run from highs around 79°F in July to about 71°F in September. That station sits roughly 600 feet below the summit, so temperatures on top run cooler. The closest route is the Schoodic Mountain Trail, about a mile away, with the Black Cliff Trail and Schoodic Bog Trail each within about 1.5 miles. In winter, the Down East Sunrise Trail, under 3 miles off, is used for cross-country skiing.
