Rattlesnake Mountain

Maine

About

Rattlesnake Mountain is a summit in southern Maine, about 3.4 miles from the town of Casco. It makes a simple destination for anyone looking to add a Maine high point to a day spent in the Casco area. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Poland, Maine, run around 78°F highs and 59°F lows in July, easing to about 69°F and 48°F in September. The station sits several hundred feet lower than the summit, so expect temperatures up top to run a little cooler. Winter brings typical January highs in the upper 20s and regular snow days from December through March. Several trails lie close by. The Bri-Mar Trail is under a mile away, and the Grape Expectations Trail and Spiller Homestead Loop are both a little over 2 miles off. For something different, the deep-water soloing at Sebago Lake (Frye's Leap) is about 8 miles away.
