About Ohio River Scenic Byway

The Ohio River Scenic Byway is a 285.9-mile National Scenic Byway in Indiana. It links a long chain of river towns, among them Lawrenceburg, Aurora, Rising Sun, Vevay, Madison, Jeffersonville, Corydon, Tell City, Rockport, Newburgh and Mount Vernon. That gives drivers plenty of places to stop, refuel or break the trip into shorter legs. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to drive. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run about 75°F highs and 54°F lows in May, and about 79°F highs and 57°F lows in September, which is also the month with the fewest wet days. The byway passes close to a good mix of outdoor stops. Hikers can walk the Indian Creek Trail, and paddlers can try Little Indian Creek. Climbers can head to Posey Crag, and German Ridge Campground offers a place to spend the night along the way.
