St. George Island: 8th Street West
About
St. George Island: 8th Street West is a public beach access point on the Florida coast, about a third of a mile from the community of Saint George Island. It serves as a simple way onto the sand from the island's street grid, at 8th Street on the west side. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show mild winters and hot, humid-feeling summers. January highs run about 64°F with lows near 44°F, and frost-free conditions hold all year, with no snow days on record. Spring warms quickly: April averages a high of 77°F, and May reaches about 85°F with only around four wet days, the driest month of the year. Summer peaks in July at roughly 92°F, with lows near 75°F, and July and August each bring about 12 wet days. October cools to around 82°F with just five wet days. That makes late spring and mid-fall the drier, more comfortable windows for a visit. Within about 10 miles inland, hikers can head to Gap Point Trail or the Apalachicola River Wildlife and Environmental Area Trail.
