About Guanella Pass Road

Guanella Pass Road is a 23.4-mile scenic drive in Colorado's National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. It carries two designations: it is both a National Forest Scenic Byway and a Colorado State Scenic Byway. Georgetown and Silver Plume are the towns along the route. Summer is the most comfortable time to make the drive. July typically brings highs around 77°F and lows near 49°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station in Georgetown at about 8,500 feet. Higher stretches of the road run cooler than that. The byway connects to plenty of places to stop. Guanella Pass Campground and Clear Lake Campground sit right along it, and the Burning Bear hike and the 7 Mile Boulders climbing area are close by as well.
