Engine Boulder is a climbing area in western Colorado, about 1.4 miles from the town of Whitewater. It sits in a tight cluster of bouldering spots, with several other named boulders within a tenth of a mile, so it works well as one stop on a session that moves between problems. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable climbing weather. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Grand Junction show highs around 65°F in April and 67°F in October. Midsummer is hot, with July highs averaging about 93°F. Caboose Boulder, Superchief Boulder and the Freight Yard Boulder Area are all about 0.1 mile away, and a mountain bike trail near East Creek Trailhead lies roughly 0.2 mile off.
