Oats Peak

About

Oats Peak is a summit in the San Luis Obispo Unit, about 3.9 miles from the town of Los Osos in California. Several trails run close to the peak, with the Oats Peak Trail starting within a mile of the summit. The climate here is mild all year, with no snow days in a typical year. Typical averages from the Morro Bay Fire Dept weather station, about 7.6 miles away and roughly 1,250 feet lower, show highs of about 65°F in December through February. Highs rise to the upper 60s through spring and summer and peak around 72°F in September and October. Lows range from the mid-40s in winter to the mid-50s in late summer. Rain falls mostly from November through March, with about six to eight wet days a month in the wettest stretch. July and August average no wet days. Because the station sits well below the summit, temperatures up high run cooler. The Alan Peak Trail lies just 0.1 mile away, and the Oats Peak Trail and Beebe Trail are within about a mile. For an overnight stay, Morro Bay State Park Campground is about 7.5 miles off.
