Eagle Peak is a summit in California's Santa Clara Unit, about 2.7 miles from the town of Clayton. It sits among a cluster of hiking routes on the north side of the Mount Diablo area, which makes it a natural objective for anyone planning a day on the trails out of Clayton. For timing, spring and fall tend to be the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station put May highs around 68°F and October highs near 72°F, with only a handful of wet days in each month. Midsummer is hotter, with average highs in the low 80s. Winter brings more frequent rain but no snow days on average. The Eagle Peak Trail is about 0.7 miles away, and the Mitchell Rock Trail and Back Creek Trail are both within a mile.
