Tolowa Dunes State Park

Tolowa Dunes State Park covers 4,199 acres on California's far north coast, about 3 miles from Crescent City. It is a state park managed by California's state park agency, and it holds one fishing or paddling spot within its boundaries. Rather than a single route, the park is a base for several short trails that start close together. Beach Trail lies under half a mile away, with Sweetwater Creek Trail, Cadre Point Trail and Dead Lake Trail all within about a mile, so it's easy to combine a few in one visit. Summer and early fall are the driest and mildest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show August highs around 66°F with lows near 52°F and only about three wet days in the month, while winter months bring 14 to 17 wet days and highs in the mid-50s. Beyond the trails inside and around the park, paddlers can head to Mill Creek, about 7 miles away, or the Smith River, roughly 10 miles off.
