Russian Gulch State Park
About
Russian Gulch State Park is a California state park managed by State Park and Recreation, about 1.5 miles from the town of Mendocino. It serves as a base for a cluster of short trails that start close together, so it works well as a day of hiking with several options in a small area. Late summer into early fall is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show highs around 65°F from July through September, with only a few wet days a month. Winter is cooler and much wetter, with highs in the low 50s and rain on about 16 to 17 days a month. The closest trails are South Headlands Trail and South Trail, each about 0.3 miles away, and Headlands Trail at about 0.6 miles. Fern Canyon Trail is roughly 1.6 miles off. Paddlers can head to the South Fork Noyo River, about 7.6 miles away.
