Schoolhouse Beach

Schoolhouse Beach is a public ocean beach on the California coast, about 0.3 miles from the small community of Carmet, within the Sonoma-Lake Napa Unit. It's a stop for walking the sand and taking in the shoreline rather than getting in the water: swimming is not allowed here. The beach has restrooms and accessible access, and there is no fee to visit. Dogs are not permitted, so plan to leave pets at home. Late summer into early fall tends to be the most comfortable time to go, with typical highs around 63 to 66°F in August and September and only about four wet days a month, based on averages from a nearby weather station at Bodega. Winter brings cooler typical highs in the mid-50s and roughly 11 wet days a month. Pomo Canyon Trail and the Pomo Canyon climbing area are about 3.3 miles away, and Red Hill Trail is about 3.6 miles off. Paddlers can head to Estero Americano, roughly 9.7 miles from the beach.
