About this program

Come join a ranger for a guided hike in the Mt Pisgah area! We may hike to the picnic area and examine the beauty of the forest, or walk along the Buck Spring trail near the former site of Vanderbilt’s hunting lodge. Hike topics may change from day to day, to reflect the abundance of variety along the Parkway!

The hikes in the area range from moderate to moderately strenuous, and all have rocky terrain. Expect the trail to be slick, especially if there has been dense fog or rain recently.

You must wear closed-toed shoes appropriate for a trail walk. Please bring water and rain gear in case of a turn in the weather. If there is light rain, the hike will continue if everyone is sufficiently prepared. In the event of thunder or other dangerous conditions, the hike will be canceled.

Where to meet
Meet at the Buck Spring Overlook, at Milepost 407.6. It’s the first overlook after you turn off the main Parkway, heading in the direction of the Mt Pisgah Parking Area.
