About this trail
This point-to-point trail traverses 20.91 miles through the rugged terrain of southern Illinois, connecting Elizabethtown to the scenic Garden of the Gods wilderness area. Hikers will experience diverse landscapes including river bottomlands, rocky ridges, and sandstone bluffs characteristic of the Shawnee National Forest region. This extended backpacking route showcases the natural beauty and geological drama of Illinois's most mountainous terrain.
