Kanab Creek Wilderness Area

Kanab Creek Wilderness Area encompasses nearly 7,000 acres of primitive backcountry in northern Arizona managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This federally designated Wilderness preserves a landscape of canyon country, washes, and desert terrain suited to foot travel and self-reliant exploration.

Hiking and backpacking are the primary pursuits here. The Wilderness offers the solitude and remoteness that comes with strict protection—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors must travel on foot, pack what they need, and leave no trace of their passage. Water sources and route-finding require advance planning and knowledge of desert travel.

Access is non-motorized only, and seasons matter in the Arizona high desert. Spring and fall offer moderate temperatures ideal for backcountry travel. Summer heat and winter cold both present real challenges. This is not a place for casual visitors; success depends on self-sufficiency, navigation skills, and respect for Wilderness rules.
