About Agua Tibia Wilderness Area

Agua Tibia Wilderness Area is a 524-acre federally protected wilderness in California managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This primitive backcountry offers hiking and backpacking for visitors seeking solitude and an untracked landscape away from developed infrastructure.

As a designated Wilderness Area, the terrain is off-limits to roads, motorized vehicles, and mechanized travel of any kind. All exploration must be done on foot. The emphasis here is on self-reliance and Leave No Trace principles—pack out everything you pack in, stay on or near existing use routes to minimize impact, and camp with minimal disturbance to the land.

Access is typically from trailheads on adjacent public or private land; there are no facilities within the wilderness itself. Seasonal conditions and water availability should be researched before you go. This is backcountry travel in its truest form: quiet, unmanicured, and rewarding for those prepared to move through wild country responsibly.
