About Historic National Road

Historic National Road is an 80.3-mile All-American Road crossing southwestern Pennsylvania. The drive links a long string of small towns, starting near Addison and passing through Markleysburg, Farmington and Chalkhill before reaching Hopwood and Uniontown. From there it continues west through Brownsville, Centerville, Beallsville and Washington, then on to Claysville and West Alexander. Late spring through early fall is the most comfortable time to drive it. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 72°F in May to the low 80s in July, while winter brings highs in the upper 30s and around 10 snowy days in January. Several short outings sit close to the road. Lick Hollow Road for mountain biking and Buffalo Creek for canoeing are both within a quarter mile. The Outer Meadow Trail is a short hike nearby, and the Jumonville Glen Loop Trail is about 2 miles off the route.
