Spring and fall are generally the most comfortable seasons for climbing in this part of southern Idaho. Summer temperatures on exposed basalt can get hot by midday, so early morning starts are worth planning for if you're visiting June through August. Winter climbing is possible on warmer days but snow and ice on approaches can complicate access.
Both are well represented. Bouldering problems like James Bond, Valhalla, Pain and Gain, and Reach-No Hands (aka Douche Canoe) are listed alongside the roped routes, so you can mix sessions or focus entirely on bouldering if that's your preference. Bring a crash pad.
For sport climbing, a standard rack of quickdraws and a 60-meter rope covers most routes. The Rap-Tour listing suggests rappelling is part of getting off some routes, so a belay/rappel device and familiarity with rappelling is worth having sorted before you go. For bouldering, a crash pad and brush are the basics. Sun protection and extra water matter more here than at shaded canyon crags.
