Overnight Backpacking in the Wilderness Requires a Physical Permit If you (or someone else in your group) has made a reservation on Recreation.gov for a wilderness backpacking permit, then before starting your trip, the permit holder is required to stop at one of Rocky Mountain National Park's Wilderness Offices and pick up your wilderness backpacking permit in person during regular business hours. On the west side of RMNP, the Wilderness Office is located inside Kawuneeche Visitor Center. Address: 16018 U.S. Hwy 34, Grand Lake, CO 80447 Phone Number: 970-586-1521 (summer season only) Hours: Open daily from late May to October 31: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
