Early morning is strongly recommended from late spring through early fall. Desert rock absorbs heat quickly, and friction on bouldering problems drops off significantly once the sun hits the stone. In cooler months, afternoon sessions are often fine and sometimes preferable.
A crash pad is essential since all listed problems are bouldering. Bring a stiff brush for cleaning holds, plenty of water (there are no services at the boulders), and sun protection. Rock shoes, chalk, and a spotter are standard for any bouldering session.
Wikieup is a small community with limited services — a gas station and not much else. There are no restrooms, water, or gear shops at the bouldering areas themselves. Stock up in Kingman or Wickenburg before heading out, and plan to be self-sufficient for the day.
