About this program

Join us to learn about the natural ecosystem of the Tehachapi range, agricultural systems made possible by farmworkers, and how the two are interconnected. Participate in hands-on activities and take a handmade craft home with you!

As a meeting point for the Sierra Nevada Range, the Mojave Desert, the Central Valley, and the Southern Coastal Range, the Tehachapi Mountains are widely recognized as a biodiversity hotspot. Within this ecosystem are several keystone species that keep everything in balance. This program will discuss their roles within their ecosystem, and the importance of keystone species overall.

Farmland and natural ecosystems go hand in hand, affecting each other in their own respective ways. Visitors will learn about this connection, as well as the undeniably crucial role farm workers play in maintaining our modern-day food systems.

This program will be held in the theater room of the Visitor Center at César E. Chávez National Monument.

This is a family friendly program with opportunities to engage in arts and crafts, and interactive learning opportunities.

-------------------------------------------
