Kimberly

Kimberly is a ghost town tucked into Mill Canyon on the flank of Gold Mountain within the Tushar Mountains of Piute County, Utah. Its elevation and remote canyon setting make it one of the more dramatically situated abandoned communities in the state.

Gold mining drew settlers to Kimberly in the 1890s, and the town functioned as a working mining community until around 1910. A brief revival came in the 1930s, but by roughly 1938 the site had been permanently abandoned. The town carries a notable historical footnote as the birthplace of Ivy Baker Priest, who served as Treasurer of the United States.

Visitors today are coming to a true ghost town — remnants of a former mining community set high in a mountain canyon. The site rewards those interested in history and photography. Access into a high canyon in the Tushar Mountains means the road is realistically passable only in the warmer months, and winter conditions make the area hazardous from late fall through early spring.
