Sturgeon River Trailhead 73 Pulloff
About Sturgeon River Trailhead 73 Pulloff
The Sturgeon River Trail is a 22-mile hiking and skiing trail and also offers opportunities for camping and river fishing. The trail winds along high ridges of the Sturgeon River, near the river bank with its large silver maples, and through mature pine forests, grassy openings and reforested areas. Most of the Sturgeon River Trail follows gently rolling terrain with sections suitable for all levels of hikers and skiers. A loop around Jean and Louise Lakes is steeper and suited for intermediate level. Jean Lake features an Adirondack-type shelter for campers. In June of 2018, a regularly scheduled bridge inspection was conducted on the Sturgeon River Trail bridges, and one was found to be unsafe for continued use and beyond reasonable repair. The Forest Service has officially removed the bridge. As a result, the portion of the Sturgeon River Trail system located between Forest Road 279 and Junction 4 will be closed indefinitely.
