About Lizard Head Picnic Site

Nestled at the summit of Lizard Head Pass along the breathtaking San Juan Scenic Byway, the Lizard Head Interpretive site provides breathtaking panoramic views of the glacially carved San Juan Mountain Range. Informative interpretive signs provide captivating insights into the historical significance of this iconic pass, along with plenty of photo opportunities. Included at this location is easy access to the Lizard Head Wilderness via the Lizard Head Trail Head parking lot. It is a short drive past the restrooms on right (northwest). Furthermore, there?s a picturesque picnic area to the right (north) of the main parking area. Access to this picnic area is along a short uphill (about 200 yards) dirt trail.
