The Lake Fork Trail (# 2) is 9.5 miles long and leads from Lake Fork Road (Forest Road 2346) to Sundance Pass. It is considered one of the prettiest and more popular trails in the Red Lodge area. This trail follows the cascading waters of the Lake Fork of Rock Creek and passes a series of lakes on the way to Sundance Pass. This trail may be combined with the West Fork Rock Creek Trail for a 20.5 mile hike that crosses Sundance Pass and ends at the West Fork Rock Creek Trailhead. Elevation change: 3800 feet. The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding. *Please be aware that travelling in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness comes with additional regulations. Please know what is expected of visitors before entering the wilderness. Distance to: Broadwater Lake: 3.75 miles Lost Lake junction: 5 miles Keyser Brown Lake junction: 6 miles September Morn Lake: 8 miles Sundance Pass: 9.5 miles Side Trails: Lost Lake (# 2B): 0.3 miles Keyser Brown (# 2D): 0.6 miles The trail has a rolling gentle climb (follows the grade of the river) to Keyser Brown Lake spur trail. At this point, the trail begins to climb to the pass, which is just over 11,000ft. Because of snow, this trail is not usually completely open to Sundance Pass until mid-July.
