About Clay Butte Trailhead

Clay Butte Trailhead is located up FS Road 142 on the way to Clay Butte Fire Lookout located high in the northern part of the Shoshone along the Beartooth All-American Road (U S Highway 212) northwest of Cody, Wyoming. Clay Butte Trailhead is the primary access to Clay Butte Trail (#614), which quickly winds into Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and connects with a myriad of trails all leading to abundant high alpine lakes and through the high granitic peaks of the Beartooth Mountain Range. The trailhead has limited parking and visitor information.
