Wellsville Mountain Wilderness

Wellsville Mountain Wilderness is a 22,843-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Utah, managed by the Forest Service. The landscape is primitive backcountry open to non-motorized recreation only—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the area, with routes that offer genuine solitude and untrammeled landscape. The wilderness character means you'll encounter no developed infrastructure, trail markers, or maintained facilities once you enter.

Visitors must follow Leave No Trace principles and wilderness regulations: pack out all waste, camp in dispersed sites well away from water sources, and travel on foot. Access typically begins from trailheads on National Forest land adjacent to the wilderness boundary. Spring snowmelt and summer temperatures make late spring through early fall the most practical visiting window, though conditions vary by elevation and aspect. Plan to be entirely self-sufficient—water, navigation, and emergency response are your own responsibility in this remote, protected backcountry.
