About Ventana Wilderness Area

Ventana Wilderness Area is a 731-acre federally protected Wilderness in California managed by the Bureau of Land Management. As a designated Wilderness, it is primitive backcountry where no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted—only foot traffic and non-motorized recreation are allowed.

The area offers hiking and backpacking for visitors seeking solitude and untrammeled land. All travel must be on foot, and visitors are expected to follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and minimize impact on the landscape and wildlife.

Access is limited to foot traffic only, and the remote, undeveloped character means planning ahead is essential. Seasonal conditions will affect when the area is safely accessible, and visitors should verify current conditions and any access routes with the BLM before traveling.
