Three Sisters Wilderness

Three Sisters Wilderness is a 283,818-acre federally protected wilderness area in Oregon managed by the Forest Service. It protects a vast backcountry landscape where hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the terrain. The wilderness is entirely non-motorized and undeveloped—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted anywhere within its boundaries.

Visitors come to Three Sisters for backcountry solitude and the opportunity to travel through wild country on foot. The wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles: pack out everything you pack in, camp only in designated areas where allowed, and travel only on foot or horseback. These rules exist to preserve the primitive character of the landscape and protect it for future visitors.

Access is by trail from surrounding national forest lands. Most travel occurs during the summer and early fall months when snow has melted and weather is stable. Winter conditions make passage difficult and dangerous. Plan ahead, know the regulations, and come prepared for true backcountry conditions—water sources, weather, and terrain are entirely your responsibility once you enter.
