Nelson Mountain Wilderness

Nelson Mountain Wilderness is a 7,439-acre federally protected wilderness area in Utah, managed by the Forest Service. It offers a genuine backcountry experience for hikers and backpackers seeking solitude in primitive terrain. The landscape is wild and undeveloped—there are no roads, no motorized access, and no mechanized travel of any kind allowed within its boundaries.

Visitors come here to hike and backpack through roadless country where the only way in is on foot. This is a place to disconnect: you'll encounter no vehicle sounds, no mountain bikes, no development. The wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles—pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and travel lightly. Water sources, weather, and navigation are your own responsibility.

Access is typically from spring through fall, though conditions vary by elevation and snowfall. Winter can bring snow and difficult travel.
