Middle Wild Horse Mesa Wilderness Area

Middle Wild Horse Mesa Wilderness Area spans 17,540 acres of federally protected backcountry in Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive terrain open only to non-motorized travel—no roads, motors, or mechanized equipment are permitted. Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the landscape, and the wilderness offers genuine solitude for those willing to travel on foot.

Visitors should understand that wilderness rules are strict and non-negotiable. Leave No Trace principles are essential: pack out everything you pack in, camp at least 100 feet from water sources where possible, and travel lightly across the land. There are no established trailheads, marked routes, or developed facilities. Access requires navigation skills and self-sufficiency. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable conditions, though summer is passable; winter weather and snow can make travel difficult or unsafe.
