Menagerie Wilderness

Menagerie Wilderness is a 4,965-acre federally protected wilderness area in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry hiking and backpacking for visitors seeking non-motorized recreation and solitude in an undeveloped landscape.

As a designated Wilderness Area, the land is closed to roads, motorized vehicles, and mechanized travel of any kind. Visitors must travel on foot, pack stock, or horseback. The wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles—camp only in established sites where they exist, pack out all waste, minimize fire impact, and respect the land's protected status.

Access is seasonal and weather-dependent; spring snowmelt and winter conditions can make trails impassable or hazardous. Plan visits during summer and fall months when trails are reliably open. Bring detailed maps and be prepared for the reality of true backcountry travel: no maintained infrastructure, no cell service, and the responsibility to self-rescue.
