Ellicott Rock Wilderness

Ellicott Rock Wilderness is an 8,300-acre federally protected wilderness area in South Carolina, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking through primitive, non-motorized terrain where solitude and self-reliance are core to the experience. No roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted—this is genuine wilderness where you travel on foot and camp under Leave No Trace principles.

Visitors should expect to navigate without maintained infrastructure and to pack out everything they pack in. Access is foot-traffic only, and the wilderness character means minimal development and maximum responsibility for your own safety and environmental stewardship. Spring through fall are the most practical seasons; winter conditions can make backcountry travel significantly more challenging.
