Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness Area

Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness Area spans 11,664 acres of federally protected backcountry in Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive country where motors, mechanized travel, and roads are prohibited—visitors move on foot or horseback only, and the landscape remains largely undeveloped and wild.

The area offers backpacking and hiking for those seeking solitude and non-motorized backcountry travel. Like all designated Wilderness, it operates under Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, camp lightly, stay on established routes, and respect the land's primitive character. There are no facilities, services, or developed infrastructure; you'll need to be self-sufficient and prepared for remote conditions.

Access and timing depend on weather and snow. Spring and fall shoulder seasons can be viable, though winter conditions and summer heat both present challenges.
