Cold Wash Wilderness Area

Cold Wash Wilderness Area encompasses over 12,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in southeastern Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. As a designated Wilderness Area, the landscape is primitive and undeveloped—no roads, motorized vehicles, or mechanized travel are permitted. This is a place for hikers and backpackers seeking genuine solitude and untracked terrain.

Visitors should understand that Wilderness designation means you're traveling on foot through country without maintained infrastructure. Leave No Trace principles are not optional—they're the foundation of how Wilderness is preserved. Pack out everything you pack in, camp responsibly away from water sources, and minimize your footprint at every step. Access depends on trailheads and routes outside the Wilderness boundary itself; check with the BLM's local office for current access points and conditions. Spring and fall offer moderate temperatures, while summer heat and winter snow and cold create very different challenges.
