About Cedar Mountain Wilderness Area
Cedar Mountain Wilderness Area spans over 104,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a designated Wilderness. This is primitive terrain where motorized travel, mechanical transport, and developed infrastructure are prohibited—the landscape is yours to explore on foot or horseback alone.
The area offers backpacking and hiking for those seeking genuine solitude and self-reliant travel. There are no maintained trails, facilities, or services; you navigate by map and compass and carry all water and supplies. Visitors must follow strict Leave No Trace practices: pack out what you pack in, camp away from water sources, and leave no trace of your passage.
Access is by foot only. Spring (May) through fall (October) are the main visiting windows, with summer months offering the most reliable conditions. Winter brings snow and hazardous travel. Come prepared for remote backcountry conditions, self-rescue capability, and the reality that help is far away. This is wilderness in its truest sense—solitude comes with the responsibility to travel lightly and leave the land unchanged.
