Big Wild Horse Mesa Wilderness Area spans 20,150 acres of federally protected backcountry in Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive country where motors, roads, and mechanized travel are prohibited—visitors travel on foot or horseback only, and the landscape demands self-reliance and Leave No Trace ethics.

The wilderness offers hiking and backpacking through remote terrain, with solitude as a defining feature. Access is limited and unmarked in places; you'll need solid navigation skills and a map. Spring and fall bring moderate temperatures, though snow and cold weather can arrive in winter months. Summer heat can be intense at lower elevations. Carry all water and supplies, camp at least 100 yards from water sources, and pack out every trace of your visit.
