Ashdown Gorge Wilderness

Ashdown Gorge Wilderness is a 7,084-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Utah managed by the Forest Service. The landscape is characterized by rugged canyon country and primitive backcountry terrain suited to quiet, foot-powered exploration.

The wilderness offers hiking and backpacking as the primary ways to experience it. This is genuine backcountry—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors come seeking solitude and untracked terrain, and the wilderness designation ensures those qualities are preserved.

Access requires leaving your vehicle behind and traveling on foot. Like all federally designated Wilderness Areas, Ashdown Gorge operates under strict Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, stay on established routes where they exist, camp responsibly, and travel quietly. Spring through fall is the practical visiting window, though snow and cold weather can make winter travel hazardous.
