Rock Climbing in Lake Point, Utah

Lake Point, Utah sits at the edge of the Great Salt Lake basin where a compact band of rock has quietly built a reputation among Wasatch-front climbers who want something closer than Little Cottonwood Canyon. The main draw is Lake Point Crag, a bouldering-heavy area with 13 listed problems and routes ranging from named classics like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb to problems still going by working titles — Fearless, Blue Blood, Cavern Conundrum, Blood Diamond, Nightmare Cracks, and a pair of problems on The Red (left and right). The rock has enough variety to keep a crew busy for a half-day session, with featured crack lines like Nightmare Cracks sitting alongside more technical face problems. It is not a destination you fly in for, but if you are based in Salt Lake City or Tooele, it is the kind of spot you can hit on a weekday morning before the heat builds. The bouldering concentration means you can travel light — no rack required for most of what is here — and the relatively low elevation keeps it accessible when higher crags are still under snow.
