Jean, Nevada sits about 30 miles south of Las Vegas along I-15, and the Prison Sex Bouldering Area — commonly called the Jean Boulders — is the reason climbers make the detour. The area is a compact bouldering spot in the Mojave Desert, with problems spread across a relatively small footprint, which makes it easy to sample a lot of climbing in a single session. The problem names here — Tainted Taco, Toilet Wine, Contraband Crack, Hella Jacuzzi, Prison Wallet — give you a sense of the irreverent local culture, but the rock itself is serious enough. You'll find a range of styles across the 10 or so established problems, from crack-style movement on Contraband Crack to whatever Hella VD and Rough n' Ready throw at you. This is not a destination with long multi-pitch routes or alpine exposure — it's a bouldering area, full stop, and it works best as a day trip or a warm-up stop on a longer desert climbing road trip. The proximity to Las Vegas means it can get crowded on weekends, especially during the cooler months when desert conditions are actually pleasant. If you're driving down from Vegas and want real rock under your hands without committing to Red Rock Canyon, Jean is a legitimate option.
Everything here is bouldering — no sport routes, no trad lines, no top-rope anchors. All 10 listed problems are boulder problems, so bring a crash pad, climbing shoes, and chalk. A spotter is useful on several of the problems.
Fall through early spring is the practical window — roughly October through April. Summer temperatures in the Mojave regularly exceed 100°F, which makes friction climbing miserable and potentially dangerous. Winter days are usually mild enough to climb comfortably, though nights can drop near freezing.

Jean is directly off I-15 at the Jean exit, roughly 30 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip. The bouldering area is accessible by car — check a current source like Mountain Project for the specific dirt-road approach and parking, as desert access roads can change after weather events.
The Jean Boulders have problems spread across difficulty levels, so beginners and intermediate boulderers will find something to work on alongside more experienced climbers. That said, this is not a guided or managed facility — you should already know how to fall safely, read a boulder problem, and use a crash pad before showing up.
