About Ski San Isabel

Ski San Isabel is an abandoned ski area located in the San Isabel National Forest near Pueblo, Colorado. Once a modest regional ski destination, the resort ceased operations years ago and now exists primarily as a historical site and backcountry access point. The area sits at moderate elevation in the Wet Mountains, offering potential for backcountry skiing and snowshoeing during winter months when snow permits. Today, visitors primarily access the surrounding national forest lands for hiking, camping, and summer recreation rather than traditional resort skiing.

The terrain around the former ski area is characterized by coniferous forests interspersed with alpine meadows, typical of the southern Rocky Mountains. While the ski lifts and groomed runs are no longer operational, the landscape remains attractive for backcountry touring and off-trail skiing when conditions allow. Summer visitors can explore the extensive trail network throughout San Isabel National Forest, including access to 14,000-foot peaks and scenic mountain vistas. The area serves as a gateway to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and offers solitude compared to more heavily trafficked Colorado ski regions.
