About Red Mountain
Red Mountain is an abandoned ski area located in Colorado's San Juan Mountains, offering a glimpse into the region's rich ski history. Though no longer operating as a commercial resort, the terrain remains accessible to backcountry skiers and snowshoers seeking solitude and untracked powder in the high alpine environment. The surrounding wilderness provides excellent opportunities for summer hiking, with ridge-line traverses and wildflower-dotted meadows accessible from the old resort boundaries. The area's elevation and north-facing slopes retain snow well into spring, making it attractive for late-season backcountry touring and ski mountaineering pursuits.
