About Purgatory Resort
Purgatory Resort, nestled in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, offers a balanced ski experience with 1,963 feet of vertical drop accessible via 14 lifts (10 chairlifts, 2 drag lifts, and 2 magic carpets). The resort features 89 downhill runs spanning 67 kilometers, with terrain split across beginner-friendly cruisers, flowing intermediates, and challenging advanced terrain including steep bowls and technical tree skiing. The resort's 10,826-foot summit elevation provides reliable snow conditions throughout the winter season, while the base elevation of 8,863 feet ensures good snow preservation. Beyond groomed runs, the area offers access to backcountry touring opportunities in the surrounding San Juan range, allowing adventurous skiers to explore untracked terrain and high alpine bowls. Summer visitors can enjoy hiking on the extensive trail network, with access to scenic ridgelines and wildflower meadows that characterize the high San Juan plateau.
