About Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

Arapahoe Basin sits at the Continental Divide in central Colorado, offering North America's longest ski season thanks to its high elevation (10,809–12,477 ft) and reliable snow accumulation. The resort features 109 runs across 1,668 vertical feet, with terrain balanced between intermediate cruisers, challenging blacks, and expert-only bowls and chutes. The run distribution—roughly 3% novice, 35% intermediate, 50% advanced, and 12% expert—makes A-Basin ideal for intermediate to advanced skiers and riders seeking steep terrain and long descents. With no terrain park, the resort caters to purists focused on natural snow and varied pitch.

The lift system includes 6 chair lifts, 2 magic carpets, and a rope tow, providing efficient access to high alpine terrain. The Lenawee Ridge area is famous for its steep, open bowls and direct descents, while lower-elevation runs offer respite during deep snow periods. Backcountry access from the ridgetop opens additional touring and ski mountaineering opportunities for experienced parties, particularly in spring and early summer when avalanche conditions stabilize.

A-Basin typically opens in mid-October and remains operational into May or early June, benefiting from spring snow and high-altitude preservation. Summer hiking and alpine photography are viable from late June through September. The resort sits directly off I-70 near Keystone, about 90 minutes west of Denver; plan for variable traffic and potential I-70 closures during winter storms. Parking fills quickly on weekends and powder days.
