Willamette National Forest

Willamette National Forest spans over a million acres across Oregon, offering extensive recreation across varied terrain and elevation. The forest supports hiking and backpacking on numerous trails, dispersed camping throughout its public lands, and fishing in streams and lakes. Hunting seasons draw visitors in fall and winter, while scenic driving routes provide access to the landscape without intensive travel.

The forest experiences distinct seasons. Summer and early fall offer the most reliable access and conditions for trails and camping, typically from June through September. Spring and late fall are passable but increasingly affected by weather and snow at higher elevations. Winter can bring heavy snow and hazardous conditions that close or restrict many areas and roads, particularly from December through March. Access varies by elevation and specific location—lower areas may open earlier in spring and close later in fall than high-country zones.
