El Yunque National Forest

El Yunque National Forest spans 477 acres in Puerto Rico and represents the only tropical national forest in the U.S. National Forest System. The landscape is characterized by lush tropical vegetation and diverse ecosystems managed by the Forest Service for multiple-use recreation and resource conservation.

Visitors can explore the forest through hiking trails that wind through the tropical canopy, fish in streams and water features, and enjoy opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography amid the rich biodiversity. Dispersed camping and scenic recreation are available throughout the forest. The tropical climate means the forest is accessible year-round, though summer and early fall bring higher humidity and occasional tropical weather systems.
