Caribou National Forest

Caribou National Forest spans nearly 258,000 acres across eastern Idaho, offering a mix of hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting opportunities across a landscape of forests and meadows. The forest provides access to dispersed camping throughout its lands, scenic driving routes, and multiple trails for day hikes and backpacking. Fishing is available in streams and alpine lakes scattered across the forest.

Visitors can hunt in designated seasons and explore the area on horseback or mountain bike where permitted. Winter brings opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Access is best from late spring through early fall, when roads and trails are snow-free. Summer months—June through September—see the most stable weather and trail conditions, though higher elevations may retain snow into early summer. Winter travel requires preparation for snow and cold.
